What’s A Bush Dance?

Bush dancing is a form of Australian partner dancing that is influenced by English, Scottish and Irish Folk Dancing. Some examples include the Pride of Erin, Strip the Willow or the Heel and Toe Polka, which you might have danced at school.

At a Bush Dance, there is a ‘caller’ who teaches the dances before the music starts and continues to call the steps when the band is playing. The bush band often plays a traditional selection of folk tunes.

High energy, inclusivity and enjoyment are key elements of a bush dance. It’s a very beginner friendly form of folk dance, which you should definitely come along to!
